TIPS TO AVOID WATER DAMAGE TO YOUR WATCH
Water damage can cause pricey watch repair issues. Follow these tips to keep your watch high and dry:
The most obvious tip is to keep your watch away from water if it is not water resistant!
Do not shower with your watch on, even if it is water resistant. The soap and shampoo may damage the watch case and strap or bracelet.
If you wear a watch to swim in the pool or ocean, be sure to rinse the watch off afterwards to avoid damage from the chlorine and/or salt.
Pay attention to the instructions provided by your watch manufacturer about how much water pressure your watch was designed to handle. If you like to dive with your watch, it is a good idea to have the watch pressure tested every few years to make sure that the watch has maintained its water resistance.
NEVER pull the crown of your watch out while under water, even if it is a diver watch. While the buttons are designed to be used under water, pulling out the crown may cause the watch case to be flooded with water.
Have your watch serviced as per the manufacturer’s recommendations. Over time the gaskets will dry out and crack, compromising the water resistance. Fine watches need servicing every five years and if you use the watch to dive, you probably should have the watch pressure tested every few years to avoid expensive water damage.
